What You’ll Do:
Summary of Position
The Revenue Cycle Payer Enrollment & Systems Specialist is responsible for managing payer electronic enrollments (ERA, EFT, EDI claims) and maintaining those connections to ensure timely and accurate reimbursement. In addition, this role supports configuration and optimization within the practice management and clearinghouse systems, using available functionality to improve claim submission, scrubbing, and reporting. The position bridges payer connectivity with system setup to drive efficiency and reduce denials.
Payer Enrollment & Maintenance
- Coordinate enrollment with payers for ERA, EFT, and EDI claim submission.
- Submit enrollment forms, monitor status, and follow up with payers/clearinghouses to ensure timely activation.
- Maintain accurate records of all payer enrollments, effective dates, and revalidations.
- Proactively track and renew enrollments to avoid payment or claim submission interruptions.
System Setup & Configuration
- Assist in setting up and maintaining payer profiles within the practice management and clearinghouse systems.
- Configure available claim scrubbing rules, mapping, and edits within system functionality (no custom development required).
- Monitor clearinghouse reports and system error queues to identify and resolve setup-related issues.
- Collaborate with billing and IT teams to ensure system configurations align with payer-specific requirements.
Revenue Cycle Optimization
- Partner with billing, coding, and AR teams to identify recurring errors or denials and implement system-based solutions where possible.
- Ensure ERA/EFT enrollments are integrated into posting workflows for efficient automated payment posting.
- Provide input into system workflows to improve clean claim rates and reduce manual rework.
Reporting & Monitoring
- Develop and maintain reporting dashboards for payer enrollment status, claim rejections, and ERA/EFT adoption rates.
- Track system edits, scrubber effectiveness, and clearinghouse rejection trends.
- Share actionable insights with leadership to guide process improvements.
Compliance & Payer Relations
- Stay current on payer-specific EDI, ERA, and EFT requirements and communicate changes to leadership.
- Ensure enrollments and system configurations comply with payer policies, HIPAA, and regulatory standards.
- Serve as the point of contact for payer and clearinghouse issues related to connectivity and system functionality.
What We're Looking For:
Required Skills / Abilities
- Minimum of 2-3 years of EDI experience in a health plan or managed care is required.
- 2+ years of experience in a remote working environment.
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent certificate.
- Demonstrated experience and understanding of data sets and formats such as ANSI files: X12, HL7, and FHIR standards.
- Hands on experience having implemented 834 & 837 files for a health plan, build and troubleshoot carrier forms, and ensure accurate and efficient data exchange.
- Proven ability to impact process improvement and efficient operations.
- High level of business and technical knowledge with significant practical experience in healthcare administration or operations preferred
- Communicate effectively with internal staff and insurance companies.
- Collaborative and humble approach with internal and external resources.
- Able to prioritize and organize daily tasks.
- Strong attention to detail, positive attitude and a proven ability to lead a team to success.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel.
- Knowledge of state regulations.
- Presentation skills are desirable.
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Able to work with a diverse group of people.
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced office environment.
Education & Experience
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, Business, or related field.
- 3+ years of experience in payer enrollment or revenue cycle systems.
- Experience in dermatology or multi-specialty healthcare preferred.
