Job Title: Team Lead Credentialing

Reports to: Director of Provider Operations

Status: Full-time

SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Credentialing Team Lead is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the credentialing team to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant processing of initial applications, reappointments, and ongoing credentialing activities. This role also includes hands-on credentialing responsibilities and serves as a key liaison between internal departments, providers, and external entities. The Credentialing Team Lead plays a critical role in maintaining provider eligibility, organizational compliance, and supporting the onboarding process.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Key Responsibilities:

Team Leadership & Oversight:

  • Provide day-to-day supervision and support to credentialing specialists or coordinators.
  • Assign and monitor workloads to ensure balanced task distribution and on-time credentialing completion.
  • Train new team members and support ongoing professional development.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for team questions, escalations, or problem resolution.

Credentialing Operations:

  • Review, complete, and submit credentialing and recredentialing applications for healthcare providers across all applicable facilities or payers.
  • Verify provider credentials, including licensure, education, training, certifications, work history, malpractice coverage, and professional references.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and payer requirements (e.g., NCQA, URAC, CMS, The Joint Commission).
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date provider records in credentialing databases and tracking systems.

Quality Assurance and Compliance:

  • Conduct internal audits and file reviews to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with organizational policies and industry standards.
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of credentialing tasks to support payer enrollment, hospital privileges, and organizational needs.
  • Stay informed on changes to state, federal, and accreditation credentialing requirements, and communicate updates to the team.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Act as a liaison between the credentialing team, provider enrollment, human resources, medical staff services, and provider offices.
  • Communicate clearly with providers to gather required documents, clarify application details, and resolve credentialing issues.
  • Support onboarding and privileging processes in coordination with medical staff offices, as applicable.

Data Management and Reporting:

  • Ensure data accuracy in credentialing systems (e.g., CAQH, Verity, Cactus, Medversant, or internal databases).
  • Track and report team performance metrics and credentialing turnaround times.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports and dashboards for leadership as needed.

What We're Looking for:

Education:

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration or a related field preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum 3–5 years of in credentialing or medical staff services required
  • Prior experience in a leadership or supervisory role preferred.

Certifications:

  • CPCS or CPMSM certification through NAMSS preferred

Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of credentialing standards and processes.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Proficiency with credentialing software and Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to manage multiple tasks, deadlines, and team performance under pressure
