Radiation Bookkeeper
- Location: Skin and Cancer Institute
General Summary:
The Radiation Bookkeeper is responsible for managing patient communications and scheduling related to radiation treatments. This role ensures all eligible skin cancer patients are offered appropriate treatment options, assists in coordinating follow-up care, communicates with the billing team for insurance verifications, and audits treatment progress to ensure continuity of care.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Contact all eligible skin cancer patients, regardless of prior treatments, to discuss radiation therapy options.
- Offer SRT patients (Superficial Radiation Therapy) the choice between surgical or radiation treatment.
- Offer Brachytherapy patients radiation treatment exclusively; refer patients seeking additional information or declining treatment to Dr. Taheri, per protocol.
- Communicate diagnosis results outside of skin cancer to patients and schedule necessary follow-up or treatment appointments.
- Coordinate with the radiation billing team for patients requiring insurance verification or authorization, including HMO, PPO, VA, Medi-Cal, or Workers' Compensation coverage.
- Send tasks to the radiation billing team immediately when a patient expresses interest in radiation treatment.
- Audit patient treatment schedules to ensure patients receive all planned radiation sessions and promptly follow up with patients who miss appointments.
- Audit radiation workflows in EMA to ensure all patients pending treatment are appropriately scheduled.
- Cross-reference the radiation tracker with EMA workflows to ensure no eligible patients are missed.
Minor Duties and Responsibilities:
- Complete tasks within EMA related to radiation treatments.
- Maintain and update cancer logs and radiation trackers.
- Work assigned workflows in EMA to support patient care operations.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with clinical, billing, and administrative teams.
- Proficiency with electronic medical records systems (experience with EMA preferred).
- Ability to handle sensitive patient information with confidentiality and professionalism.
Working Conditions:
- Office and clinical environment.
- Frequent interaction with patients, physicians, and internal teams.
- May require extended periods working at a computer.
